a device for spotting rifle targets at night, similar to the sniperscope, but using nocturnal light from the sky to light up targets by means of a network of glass fibers, sensitized film, and electrons: »

Unlike the older infrared sniperscope, the compact starlight scope sends out no radiation of its own and hence cannot be detected by the enemy (New York Times).
